How to check a fire door’s working condition?

Checking the work status of fire doors is an important maintenance task to ensure that it can working normally when fire happens or emergency.

Here are 5 Steps for you to check the fire doors’ work status.

1.Appearance Inspection

-Check door frame and door leaf: Make sure they are undamaged, without apparent bending and cracks.

-Fire resistant label: Verify that there is a clear fire certification label or stickers on the fire door (side of door leaf and frame) and check the validity of the marking. For some old doors you may not see them. The vision panel also have certification etched mark, normally in one corner.

-Surface finish: check painting or other kinds of surface treatment are not corroded or rusted.

2.Open and Close performances

-Check the door can be open and close smoothly, without any silted up or stuck.

-Auto close: for those doors have door closer, check they can automatically close with an appropriated speed. And should be locked after auto closed. Furthermore, fire doors should on long-term closure status, when fire happens it can cut off fire from flow.

-Fireproof lock: Can set lock normally, not slacked or rusted. Check the handle and panic bar can be rotated or pushed.

-Double door: check both door leaf running smoothly, the main leaf may have flush bolt, check it can be open or locked.

3.Sealing performance

-Smoke seal: check around the frame and door leaf, there are smoke seals that keep the door tightly fitted. Confirm whether the fire sealing strip around the door frame is intact, without aging, falling off or damaging.

-Gap size: Whether the gap between the door leaf and the door frame meet the requirements of the specification (the general gap should less than 4mm)

4.Electrical connection and linkage

If the fire door connects the fire system (such as the electromagnetic door lock and the fire alarm linkage), the following inspections need to be performed:

-Electromagnetic doors: Whether the fire door can be closed automatically when power off.

-Linkage function: Whether the fire door can be automatically closed after simulating the fire alarm signal.

5.File records

-Every time after check or maintenance should write a record. And checking the record every fixed date.
